Film photography is experiencing a bit of a resurgence the way vinyl albums did 5 or so years ago. I personally love to work with film and have my early photographic years in the dark rooms at the arts institute Bournemouth (now arts University Bournemouth). So my photography took a bit of a back seat for a good 8 years or so and I sold off most of my gear but had a mad moment and bought a pro grade film slr from Japan via a well known online auction site.
I waited eagerly for my new Canon eos 1N hs to arrive and whilst I waited for the never ending shipping and customs turmoil of importing a camera from Japan I bought a few lenses. I picked up a Canon ef 28 – 105mm f3.5 and the classic nifty fifty f1.8. Two solid lenses I remember from my wedding photography days.
Eventually the day came and my new film slr had arrived so I put a roll of Ilford hp5 in there, packed my lenses and hit the town centre for some not so covert Street photography. Candid shots are near impossible when you have a camera with virtually the same body size and shape as any of the modern 1d Canon cameras but I still got some nice shots.

While taking these shots I reminded myself while the zoom lens was gream for filling the frame that 50mm prime is just magic. As for shooting film if I were to set up a home dark room I’d continue it further but after sending my roll of film away for a month to be processed I think for now I’ll stick with my digital olympus system.
